Master of Science in Occupational Therapy


 

The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program is an entry-level master's degree program which consists of 95 semester hours and is seven consecutive semesters in length. This includes 24 weeks of full-time Level II Fieldwork as required by accreditation standards. Level II Fieldwork is available in a variety of medical and community sites representing a diverse range of learning opportunities for students. All Level II Fieldwork must be completed within 12 months following completion of academic requirements.

Effective immediately  we are no longer accepting applicants into the MSOT program. All applicants must review the admissions procedures for applying for the OTD program. 

â–¼   Important Admission Information

The University of South Alabama Department of Occupational Therapy is no longer admitting students for the MSOT program. Effective Fall 2023 all student admissions will be for entry-level OTD only. Please see OTD program.

â–¼   Licensure

The University of South Alabama MS in Occupational Therapy Program is an accredited program by ACOTE®. Students completing the prescribed graduate courses including clinical fieldwork components for the MS in Occupational Therapy meet the academic requirements needed to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam. Our MSOT graduates are eligible to take the NBCOT exam and apply for licensure in all states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

â–¼   Additional Department Fees

Students admitted in the Occupational Therapy program will be charged a matriculation deposit of $300 required to secure a seat in the entering class. This amount is not refundable but will be applied towards tuition expenses after registration. Students should be prepared for extra expenses associated with professional studies including books, local travel to and from fieldwork sites and out-of-town travel and living expenses during Level II Fieldwork assignments.

â–¼   Accreditation

The University of South Alabama Occupational Therapy entry-level Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) until 2032.

Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
