The University of South Alabama has named Spencer Larche to the position of general counsel.

Larche has been associate counsel for the past five years. He has served as interim general counsel since December 2024 following the retirement of Kristin Dukes.

Before coming to South, Larche was a partner at Johnstone Adams LLC in Mobile, focusing on corporate matters as well as real estate, healthcare and immigration law. Larche was also an associate at Quarles & Brady, LLP in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he worked in labor and employment, healthcare and education law.

"Spencer has been a valuable asset to our institution for many years, and we have benefited greatly from his legal advice and knowledge of the law, said University President Jo Bonner. I am delighted that he has accepted this position as general counsel."

Larche graduated summa cum laude from Spring Hill College with a double-major in business and psychology. He received his Juris Doctor from Marquette University Law School, graduating magna cum laude, and a certificate in sports law from the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette.

I look forward to building upon the strong foundation laid by my predecessor and navigating the many challenges, legal and otherwise, currently facing higher education, Larche said. We have an excellent legal team in place at South, and we will continue to support the mission of the University.

Larche is a member of the Mobile Bar Association and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. He has served as Catholic Youth Organization coach and is a past board member of the organization Competing Against Cancer.

Spencer has been an integral part of many executive decisions by University leadership, said Dr. Andi Kent, executive vice president and provost. His institutional knowledge will make for a smooth transition as he assumes this role.

As general counsel, Larche will oversee a legal team to provide advice and counsel to the University of South Alabama's Board of Trustees, president, administrators and departments, along with 勛圖惇蹋 Health and University affiliates.
